The modern territory of the Svetlogorsk urban district is located on the coast of the Baltic Sea, at the northern tip of the Kaliningrad Peninsula. The Okrug (district) is a Municipal Formation, which includes the cities of Svetlogorsk, Otradnoye, the villages of Primorye, Lesnoye, Donskoye. Automobile and railways connect the Svetlogorsk urban district with the regional center. As of January 1, 2020, the population of the urban district was 19,710 people, including 15,280 residents in the resort town of Svetlogorsk itself. The total area of ​​the district is 3316 hectares; the area of ​​inland water bodies is about 7 hectares. The beaches of the Kaliningrad seaside are more than 100 km long. Coniferous and mixed forests everywhere approach the shores of the Baltic. The forests of the Svetlogorsk urban district occupy about 487 hectares. The territory of the Primorsky forestry enterprise is included in the zone of coniferous-deciduous forests, in which oaks and lindens grow. The main forest tree species are conifers, namely pine, spruce; hardwoods include oak, maple, ash, elm; soft-leaved trees include birch, alder, linden, aspen. Beech and hornbeam are also widespread here. Among the fruit trees, apple, pear, cherry, plum, cherry plum can be seen in forestry. As for shrubs, the most common are hawthorn, rose hips, lilacs, sea buckthorn, hazel, honeysuckle and various varieties of currants.
The heart of the economy of the Svetlogorsk urban district is the enterprises of the sanatorium-resort and tourist-recreational complexes. SPA retreats, boarding houses, hotels, tourist centers and children's summer camps are located on the territory of the district. Svetlogorsk is a modern and dynamically developing resort town in the Kaliningrad region. This is the westernmost resort in Russia. It is located 38 km from Kaliningrad, on a high plateau-like sand dune bank, and Svetlogorsk sandy beaches are located below, along the seacoast.
